Artist BioSilk and fiber artist Stacey Kampe was raised in Tempe, AZ, where she still resides with her husband and their 18-year-old son, the last of 6 children still living at home. In addition to pursuing her bachelor’s in fibers/textiles at Arizona State University, she also enjoys traveling and exploring nature.
Stacey’s work depicts scenes of nature and water. Her love of the ocean and the living things in it has helped her create a body of work in silk and other textiles. She gains her inspiration from her travels around the US to different coasts and the area surrounding them. Currently she has created a line of clothing with a portion of the proceeds going to aid ocean conservation efforts. Artist StatementEven though I grew up in the desert, my heart has always been in the sea. My work focuses on the ocean and conservation efforts. The effects pollution and humans have on the environment creates catastrophic problems. Saving sea animals has been important to me since the Save the Whales campaign in the early 80’s. As I have grown my love has only increased.
In 2010, I went on my first trip to Hawaii; this was also the first time I went snorkeling. The ocean is an amazing other worldly experience that I feel everyone should see. I am trying to inspire and inform people to make changes, at the very least think about their surrounding environment. We need the ocean. My current work involves just that, I have created a line of wearable art to benefit ocean conservation and the creatures I adore. I love all things fiber. Weaving and creating wall pieces using natural fabrics such as silk, cotton, bamboo & rayon. I focus on the energy of the ocean and the emotional and spiritual vibrations of it. My artworks are presented with the aim not to provide an idealistic view but to identify where light and the environment are important. |
